Palestinian Terror Group to Join Government… Again?

The complicated negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians are extremely difficult to resolve, so obviously the next step would be for the Palestinians to throw a terrorist group that rejects the peace talks altogether into the mix. That’s exactly what the latest effort to unite the Fatah and Hamas political factions would do, and based on a report from Ma’an News Agency, the Palestinians are making a real push to get the reconciliation settled. In fact, a proposal has even been made to that effect

A spokesman for Fatah, which is led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas – a so-called moderate who is also heading up the talks with Israel, told Ma’an News Agency that Abbas himself  ordered the proposal to be made. The offer includes the plans for Abbas to set actual dates for new elections. So not only would the deal bring Hamas—a terrorist group committed to destroying Israel—back into the fold, it would give them a chance to achieve even more power via elections. Now that’s a push for peace… with the bad guys.

Ma’an reported that Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh requested time to discuss the proposal with other Hamas officials. The two groups, Hamas and Fatah, have been divided ever since a bloody coup by Hamas took over the Gaza Strip region in 2007.

But reuniting with Hamas would effectively kill any chance of peace with Israel. Hamas has repeatedly rejected the current peace talks with Israel and still promotes violence.
