It can appear at times that Israel is playing David to Muslim extremists’ Goliath. Now Israel has David’s Sling – their latest missile defense system.
On Wednesday, David’s Sling successfully tracked and intercepted a short-range test missile in a joint test with the US military. Finally, something you can support your tax dollars paying for.
The Israeli press release said the test “is a major milestone in the development of the David’s Sling Weapon System and provides confidence in future Israeli capabilities to defeat the developing ballistic missile threat.”
The better Israel’s defenses, the less likely future war in the Middle East becomes. Already Israel’s other missile defense system, the Iron Dome, has saved lives and scared terrorists from seeking as much conflict with Israel in what would be a futile fight. That ultimately reduces violence and helps keep trouble from turning into all-out war, which can lead to higher oil prices or worse.
Israel also has a long-range missile defense system, the Arrow, which is another joint project with the US.
Together, the three systems will help defend the Israeli homefront, just in case Goliath starts flexing his muscles again.
