Israeli Official Discusses Peace Process, Shalit Deal

October has proven to be a busy month for Israel, as a deal was reached to free kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for more than a 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, including hundreds of terrorists serving life sentences. In addition, Israel has agreed to meet with the powerful Mideast Quartet on October 26 to discuss the peace process.

The Palestinians are also meeting with the Quartet, which consists of the United States, the European Union, the United Nations, and Russia. However, the Palestinians will not be meeting with the Israelis.

The Mideast Update spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister’s Office spokesman Mark Regev about the Quartet meeting, the peace process and the Shalit deal.
