Iran Defends ‘Death to America’ Chant

Been to any big rallies with throngs chanting “Death to Iran” lately? Didn’t think so. But “Death to America” is a longstanding and popular slogan in Iran. Yet with delicate nuclear talks with the West coming soon, Iran’s top military commander is trying to defend the hate speech.

Fars News Agency reported that Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces General Hassan Firouzabadi said the chants for death only refer to 1% of Americans. Just the leaders who are “arrogant, capitalist and Zionist.”

So it’s just for the ones who believe in the American economy and support Israel? And who feels better about the chant now?

Note he didn’t say chanting for death for those Americans was exaggeration or symbolic. He just said it doesn’t refer to some assumed portion of the American people. Have they developed bombs that can tell the difference? And since when is it normal to chant death to an entire country and only refer to their leaders?

That’s why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the “Death to America” chant shows the “true face of Iran.”

In comments released by his office, Netanyahu said that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah buy canadian valium Khamenei “who is the real ruler of Iran, yesterday says: America is the most hated country in the world. You can’t believe a word of what they say. And he fuels that hatred. That’s the real Iran.”

Netanyahu made his comments ahead of an upcoming nuclear meeting between Iran and the P5+1 – the US, the UK, France, China, Russia and Germany. The world powers are trying to negotiate a deal with Iran that will stop their nuclear program from building weapons and result in an end of global economic sanctions on Iran.

So Netanyahu has some advice for the world powers: play tough and get a good deal. “[Iran] shouldn’t be given a partial deal that allows them to keep most or all of their nuclear weapons capability for the exchange of reducing sanctions. America and the P5+1 should listen to the chants of ‘death to America’ in Tehran; give no discounts to Tehran.”

Considering the best way to fulfill “Death to America” chants is to nuke us, I’d say preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons should be an essential priority. Wouldn’t you?
